Coming off a March 9th win at No. 3 Miami, the UNC Women’s tennis team returned home to the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center to top No. 4 Michigan (10-3) in a 4-3 win. The Tar Heel ladies got the win with 3 Singles victories and a close doubles point. The Carolina women improve to 11-3 with the win over the visiting Wolverines.
The doubles point went to Carolina with victories from the De Bruycker/Suarez-Malaguti pair and the No. 5 Featherston/McHale duo. De Bruycker/Suarez-Malaguti won the match 8-3 after a beginning the match slowly. The Featherston/McHale match with No. 16 Denise Muresan and Brooke Bolender was a tight back and forth match going to the Tar Heels 8-7.
The Tar Heel ladies won Singles points from Zoe De Bruycker, No. 57 Shinann Featherston and No. 105 Lauren McHale matches. Featherston beat No. 44 Sam Crister in 3 sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. De Bruycker defeated No. 5 Muresan 6-4, 7-6 (4) on a second set tie-breaker. McHale came back from being a set down 5 to stop No. 5 Mimi Nguyen, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The March Schedule continues on Thursday when the Tar Heels will face Minnesota at 2:30 in Chapel Hill to conclude the season’s non-conference games. The remaining March schedule as the ladies on the road, not returning to Chapel Hill until the April 2nd match vs. Virginia. The full schedule is available on the tarheelblue website.
